PRESS RELEASE Johnny Depp to participate in this year’s Toronto International Film Festival Toronto, Canada, August 10, 2005. This year’s Toronto International Film Festival program has an unexpected surprise in the form of the new film by Tim Burton “The Corpse Bride.” The bigger surprise, however, is the rare appearance of the versatile and talented Hollywood actor Johnny Depp, who made such movies as Donny Brasco with Al Pacino, Don Juan de Marco with Marlon Brando, and the big blockbuster phenomenon “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Johnny Depp along with the director of “The Corpse Bride” Tim Burton and other cast members will be attending the premiere of the film at the Elgin Theatre in downtown Toronto, Canada and are expected to appear on stage before the film to make a speech to the enormous delight of the Toronto fans. “The Corpse Bride” is an animated dark, romantic tradition of Tim Burton's classic films Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Set in a 19th century European village, this stop-motion, animated feature follows the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colorful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in classic Tim Burton style. Whether this year’s festival will prove to be another successful run, one thing is ultimately clear, the premiere of “The Corpse Bride” will definitely liven up the atmosphere and raise the eyebrows of the fans above and beyond.
